İklim Değişikliğinin Su Kaynaklarına Etkisi Projesi

Covering Turkey, the outputs of three global models selected from the CMIP5 archive that forms the basis of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)'s 5th Assessment Report have been utilized to run a regional climate model with RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 emission scenarios. The modeling results, representing 11 parameters such as temperature, precipitation, relative humidity, and snow-water equivalent, along with projections of 17 indices representing extreme conditions, have been generated in Turkey for the first time at a resolution of 10x10 km at the scale of all basins.

Using a hydrological modeling approach, precipitation values were converted into flow values, and through hydraulic modeling, flow values were transformed into water level values in the defining river system and its tributaries in the basin. Aquifer environments were defined geologically and hydrogeologically at the basin scale, and existing groundwater potential was calculated by evaluating characteristics such as groundwater level observations and current and planned well information at the basin scale. A study on modeling/calculating water potential has been conducted by considering the current status of surface and groundwater resources in all basins, as well as the projected conditions for the projected periods.

Within the scope of the project, considering all basins, proposals for adaptation activities such as rainwater harvesting, water pricing, closed irrigation systems, etc., have been developed to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change on water resources.

All results produced within the scope of the project have been processed into a web-based Climate-Water Database with GIS applications. Thus, the project outputs have been made available for use by authorized users and citizens.
